Rural Development Programme for England launches grants for North Somerset companies

The Rural Development Programme for England has released a new round of funds for rural start-ups, businesses and social enterprises in North Somerset .

Grants are available for projects that improve agriculture, the environment and rural life such as improving buildings or buying new equipment.

Funding ranges from a minimum of £20,000 to a maximum of £750,000 and can meet up to 40 per cent of the project costs with the balance being provided by the applicant.

There are three types of fund available. These are:

Food processing

This is open to food and drink businesses that process agricultural or horticultural products.

Business development

For small business and start-ups, including farmers wishing to diversify into non-agricultural activities.

Rural tourism infrastructure

This is open to a wide range of organisations. If the project is intended to make a profit only small businesses and farmers who want to diversify can apply.

The deadline for Expressions of Interest is Sunday, February 16.
