Media mogul Rupert Murdoch and Jerry Hall have finalised their divorce to bring to an end six years of marriage.

News of the split broke last month when the former supermodel, 66, filed for divorce in a Los Angeles court, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the marriage breaking down.

The court petition has now been withdrawn after Hall and Murdoch, 91, privately agreed to the terms of their split, according to a report in the MailOnline.

“Jerry Hall and Rupert Murdoch have finalised their divorce,” a joint statement from their lawyers read. “They remain good friends and wish each other the best for the future.”

The former couple met in Australia in 2015, and took their romance public with an appearance at the Rugby World Cup final at Twickenham in the autumn of that year.

After a red carpet appearance at the 2016 Golden Globes, Murdoch was said to be “really, really happy”, and the couple married in March 2016 in a ceremony at St Bride’s Church on Fleet Street attended by the likes of Bob Geldof, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Tom Stoppard, Tracey Emin and Michael Caine.

“Feel like the luckiest and happiest man in world”, Murdoch tweeted at the time.

Rumours of trouble in the marriage grew after Hall did not appear at the tycoon’s annual summer party, and she filed the divorce petition five weeks ago.

Murdoch, who owns media outlets including The Times, Fox News, and the Wall Street Journal, has now been married and divorced four times. He split from Australian model Patricia Booker in 1965, was married to former newspaper reporter Anna Murdoch Mann, for three decades until 1999, and ended a 14-year union with Wendy Deng in 2014.

Hall had four children with Rolling Stone frontman Sir Mick Jagger during a 22-year relationship, although they were never legally married.

In 2019, Hall and Murdoch bought an £11 million home in Henley-on-Thames and a year later purchased a manor house in the Cotswolds.

Last December, they spent £228 million on a cattle ranch near Yellowstone Park in the US. The terms of the divorce and division of assets has not been revealed.

According to the now-withdrawn court papers, Hall is currently at Murdoch’s estate in Bel Air, California.
