Rupert Grint has some good news for Potter fans as he teases Ron Weasley return

Rupert Grint has given rise to the hopes of a future Harry Potter reunion after saying he would happily return to his role as Ron Weasley.

The 32-year-old actor was plucked from obscurity to play mischievous sidekick Ron in all eight Harry Potter movies – based on the novel series by JK Rowling.

While Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 was the final instalment of the film series, the Harry Potter story has continued on the West End with the sequel Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

Set 20 years after the conclusion of the Harry Potter saga, the sequel sees Ron, Harry and Hermione Granger grappling with adult life while their children attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in a time-travelling adventure of their own.

Fans have been gasping for the play to be adapted into a movie with original stars Rupert, Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson to return in their original Ron, Harry and Hermione roles.

Now Rupert has confirmed he would consider reprising his iconic role telling ComicBook.com: “I don’t know. I mean, never say never.”

He continued: “I would never say ‘Absolutely no’.”

He went on: “It was a huge part of my life and I'm very fond of that character and their stories. So yeah, I mean, I'd be up for it at the right time.”

Considering the possibility of a reunion sequel, he went on: “I don't know what capacity that would be, but yeah, we'll see.”

While Harry Potter and The Cursed Child sees the characters of the original series dealing with parenthood, Rupert became a parent himself for the first time this year.

The star welcomed a daughter in May named Wednesday with actress Georgia Groome.

Rupert delighted fans when he shared a photo of his bundle of joy when he joined Instagram last month.

He wrote: "Hey Instagram....only 10 years late, but here I am. Grint on the Gram! Here to introduce you all to Wednesday G. Grint. Stay safe, Rupert."
