The winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race hit out at Theresa May after she sent a message of support to a contestant in a charity drag competiton.

Aquaria, who won the tenth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race in 2018, told Theresa May to “get your policies together” before enjoying the hit series.

Mrs May had tweeted she “hadn’t had chance to catch up on RuPaul’s Drag Race” after she was asked if she were a fan.

The PM had sent her support to Ben Tye after he made it to the final of the first ever UK charity drag pageant, Miss Drag UK, on March 10.

The Daily Gazette reported Mrs May had sent a letter to the 22-year-old, wishing him luck in the competition.

The letter included a brief note from the PM, as well as a headshot of Mrs May.

Mr Tye said: "The letter shocked me completely.

"I didn't know what to do with myself I had to ring my partner in disbelief!"

When asked on Twitter if Mrs May was a fan of RuPaul’s Drag Race, she said: “Must admit I haven’t had a chance to catch up on @RuPaulsDragRace, but wishing Ben all the best in raising money for a great cause @SandsUK.”

Aquaria called Mrs May a “mess” in a reply, tweeting: “Honestly thanks for the support but no thanks. Get your policies together and then feel comfortable enjoying our art. Mess.”

Mrs May has been approached for a comment by the Standard.

Mr Tye said he appreciated the Prime Minister's show of support.

"I think it's amazing she's finally showing support for the LGBT community, I know it's been a touchy subject with politics recently," he said.

"I think more education on LGBT should be given and there's always room for improvement on rights but she's going in the right direction."

The final of the first ever UK charity drag pageant, Miss Drag UK is on March 10 and is raising money for stillbirth and neonatal death charity, Sands.
