Leaving in round one of any competition is tough so hats off to Gothy Kendoll, who is holding her head high after becoming the first ever RuPaul’s Drag Race UK evictee.
The 21-year-old queen from Leicester sashayed away in Thursday’s series opener when she failed to impress the panel with her royal looks.
Making their critiques, the judges commented on the fact Gothy did not seem confident.
Michelle Visage told her: “In time that confidence stuff will come you just need to keep focusing on it and know that you have something different to everybody else.”
In the lip sync battle, set to Dua Lipa's New Rules, she lost out to Vinegar Strokes.
Reflecting on her Drag Race experience, Gothy said: “I didn’t represent my drag to the best of my abilities and had so many fun and creative looks planned that I didn’t get to show.”
The performer will get to showcase some of her looks though, as her brief star turn on television has led to plenty of new bookings.
Explaining that in the coming months, she’ll be doing “gigs I would never have dreamed of prior to the show,” Gothy said: “Since filming I’ve been able to perfect everything that is fabulous about Gothy and I’m really excited to show everyone that!”
There are seven more episodes of the inaugural UK series to come and having triumphed in the first one, The Vivienne is shaping up to be one to watch.
After being forced to lip sync for her life alongside Gothy, Vinegar will need to step up her game in the coming weeks - as will fan favourite Cheryl Hole, who narrowly avoided the bottom two.
New episodes of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK arrive on BBC Three every Thursday at 8pm.
