Drag performer Shea Couleé will enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a mystery role in the upcoming Ironheart series.

While their casting is confirmed, the actual role they will be playing is not yet known.

“BEYOND excited to be strutting out of the Werkroom right into the Marvel Cinematic Universe,” wrote Couleé on Twitter as they shared the news.

“Words cannot express how excited I am to be a part of this amazing project! Acting was my first love, and I’m thrilled to be doing it again in such a big way!”

The Disney+ show will also star Dominique Thorne as the main character Riri Williams, a genius inventor and creator of the most advanced suit of armour since Iron Man.

Anthony Ramos and Alden Ehrenreich are also attached to the show, while Chinaka Hodge was recently tapped as head writer on the series.

Couleé is already a household name for many, after their time on Emmy-winning RuPaul’s Drag Race, finishing as a finalist on both the special all-winners edition of All Stars 7 and Drag Race Season 9.

The drag community is delighted with the news that Shea Coulee will be joining Ironheart.

Drag race reporter Joey Nolfi said: “Let’s get one thing straight: Shea Couleé has BEEN a superhero for years. Marvel is lucky to have her.”

Drag star Bimini Bon Boulash said: “Wow iconic!” Meanwhile, Jackie Cox called the announcement “epic news,” and Divina De Campo said, “this is amazing! Massive congrats.”

When will Marvel’s Ironheart be released on Disney+?

Ironheart is expected to premiere on Disney+ in the autumn of 2023, furthering the legacy of Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man.

The TV show centres on 15-year-old inventor Riri Williams, who is inspired by the inventions of Tony Stark and his work as Iron Man.
