RuPaul's Cheryl Hole says 'it's about time' Love Island represented LGBTQ community

RuPaul's Drag Race UK star Cheryl Hole has spoken out about the lack of dating shows for the LGBTQ+ community.

The drag queen, who was the seventh to be eliminated from the BBC Three series in 2019, believes it's very important for reality series such as Love Island to be more inclusive.

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, Cheryl said: "Whilst there has been a lot of progression in LGBTQ+ representation in television and film, there is still a long way to go in my opinion.

"We've seen shows like the Bi Life on E! with Courtney Act before but I do feel it's about time for a dating show for our community and I think."

She continued: "I love TV shows where people are just wanting to find love. I think its a common ground where everyone wants to feel loved and be loved and I just think there needs to be more love and happiness in the world for sure."

However, Cheryl admitted that she hasn't had a chance to watch any of Love Island 2021 just yet.

"I haven't tuned in yet as I have been busy getting myself ready to put on a killer show when the nightclubs reopen and pride season begins but I've heard its been a very entertaining season thus far," the TV star revealed.

In fact, Cheryl hasn't been watching much TV at all as she's been busy launching a new campaign with Groupon, to help Brits prepare for the first night on the dance floor when clubs reopen on July 19.

Speaking about her first night out on the town, Cheryl said: "I'm looking forward to spending time and catching up with my friends that I haven't seen in a long time.

"I can’t wait to hit all my fave late night spots with my divas - I'm looking forward to dancing and gossiping in a bar till the early hours of the morning."

She also had some advice for partygoers who may be feeling a little rusty when it comes to chatting someone up in a club.

"I definitely think pick up lines are definitely meant to be left in the books and a thing of the past. It’s all about carrying yourself like absolute royalty and draw people in to your energy," she said.

"It’s also key to be good with eye contact. Eyes are the first thing you see, so you want to make sure the first conversation you have is with your eyes. In the words of Tyra Banks, smizing!

"I’ve actually partnered with Groupon to help Brits relearn all the skills they need for their first big night out, so as well as flirting I’m helping people relearn how to dance, not stumble in heels, and also how to apply a proper face of make-up that’ll last the night."

Cheryl Hole has partnered with Groupon to launch Get Your Glad Drag On – a workshop to help out of touch Brits prepare for their first proper night on the town since March 2020.

The workshop, which includes tutorials in make-up application and how to dance, comes as new research from Groupon finds 83% of Brits admit they’re feeling rusty on the dancefloor, and 68% feel they can’t apply a face of make-up fit for a night on the town. More info on the workshop can be found here.
