RuPaul reveals greatest challenge of Drag Race UK is understanding British lingo

Drag Race UK fans are eager for the first ever British version of the TV show to kick off next week and can't wait to see what RuPaul has in store, but filming the programme came with challenges as he reveals there was a problem with the language barrier.

RuPaul, 58, will be joined by Strictly star Michelle Visage, 51, for the UK version of RuPaul's drag race, alongside TV presenter Graham Norton, 56, and comedian Alan Carr, 43.

Fans will watch 10 Drag Queens from across the nation making their debut on the BBC programme which gets underway next week, and the head judge has already spoke about the challenge of trying to get his head round the British lingo.

Filming has already been completed for the show, but as next week's premiere is growing closer, Ru has revealed he was stuck when it came to understanding some British terminology. He admitted the process was "hard".

Discussing the differences between the US and UK editions in a interview on behalf of the BBC, Ru said: "Well the British queens, they do a lot of tongue and cheek. And they can be very very cutting but in an intellectual way."

"It’s going to be interesting for audiences around the world to try to decipher some of the lingo," the head judge admitted.

"That’s been hard for me too. The other day one of the girls said that she had the ‘mouth of a navvy’ – I didn’t know what that was."

Michelle also spoke in the interview, and agreed there was a difficulty with the language barrier.

"There are a lot of things you say differently here – your greetings, colloquialisms," she explained.

"Where we would say hi how are you, you say ‘you alright?’ That makes us as Americans, why do I not look alright?"

The Drag Queens taking part in the new British version include contestants such as Baga Chipz, Blu Hydrangea, Crystal, Cheryl Hole and Divina De Campo.

From 3 October, fans will be able to watch the show weekly on BBC Three via the iPlayer .
