RuPaul becomes first drag figure to feature at Madame Tussauds

RuPaul makes drag debut in custom-made gown at Madame Tussauds London

In an exciting announcement, Madame Tussauds London revealed that a figure of renowned reality show judge RuPaul Charles will be displayed at their museum. What makes this particular figure significant is that it will be the first major character to wear drag attire. RuPaul Charles is best known as the creator and host of the immensely popular reality series, RuPaul's Drag Race.

The figure itself will be elegantly dressed in a custom-made blue gown, created by the talented designer Zaldy Goco. Zaldy, an Emmy Award-winning designer, is renowned for his work on RuPaul's Drag Race. The stunning ensemble includes R-shaped earrings and a reproduction of an Anne Boleyn-initialled pearl necklace. Zaldy also incorporated royal family order badges into the design, featuring the faces of Drag Race judge Michelle Visage, singer Diana Ross, and talk show host Oprah Winfrey, surrounded by ribbons.

Since its inception in 2009, RuPaul's Drag Race has captivated audiences worldwide with its search for the most talented drag queens. The show has spawned numerous international versions, including RuPaul's Drag Race UK vs The World, which airs on BBC Three and iPlayer. Michelle Visage, a judge on the series since its third season, recently had the opportunity to preview and approve the waxwork figure at Madame Tussauds London. Visage expressed her delight, praising the attention to detail in capturing RuPaul's essence.

The figure of RuPaul Charles will be featured as part of Madame Tussauds London's fashion runway experience. The timing is particularly fitting, as it coincides with London Fashion Week's 40th anniversary celebrations in February. Alongside RuPaul, waxworks of notable figures such as Kendall Jenner, Cara Delevingne, Victoria Beckham, and Harry Styles will also grace the exhibit.

This unique figure holds special significance for Madame Tussauds London, as it marks their first-ever drag-inspired waxwork. While there are four RuPaul waxworks at various Madame Tussauds locations worldwide, London's collection will now include this remarkable representation of the iconic entertainer.

Zaldy, the designer behind this exclusive creation, shared his inspiration for the outfit. He aimed to authentically represent RuPaul's signature style and make a glamorous statement with the gown. Every piece Zaldy designs for RuPaul is intentional, reflecting the emotions of joy, happiness, and fun that working with RuPaul brings.

Studio manager Jo Kinsey expressed that the figure truly captures RuPaul's style while playfully infusing British royal themes. She believes it's fitting that the original Queen of Drag arrives at the original Madame Tussauds in London. RuPaul embodies fearlessness, fabulousness, and promotes an important message of authenticity, expression, and unity that resonates with millions of people globally.

Fans and visitors will have the opportunity to marvel at this extraordinary figure starting on February 9th. Madame Tussauds London invites everyone to experience the captivating world of drag and celebrate the iconic RuPaul Charles, an influential figure in the entertainment industry.
