- LaGuardia Airport has warned travelers of a runway closure after a two-inch “depression” was found next to an airstrip.
- “During an airfield inspection at LaGuardia Airport , an approximately two inch depression adjacent to Runway 4/22 was identified. Out of an abundance of caution, Runway 4/22 will be temporarily closed beginning at 5 p.m. while crews conduct additional testing, work to identify the cause, and perform any necessary stabilization work,” the airport wrote .
- LGA said there is no immediate safety concern and that airport officials hope to finish the assessment and any repair work overnight so that the runway can reopen soon.
- “Operations will occur from Runway 13/31 from 5 p.m. through the duration of the evening with a goal of returning Runway 4/22 to service tomorrow morning. Passengers are encouraged to check with their airlines regarding flight status,” the airport continued.
- LaGuardia dealt with another issue in May when it was forced to close the same runway because of a sinkhole that opened up near it.
