The story begins with Will, a nine-year old boy, and his mother who were holidaying in Indonesia. Will was riding an elephant, Oona, along the beach when suddenly the elephant started trumpeting wildly at the sea, swung around and then stampeded into the shadows of the jungle with Will hanging onto her neck. A tsunami hit shortly afterwards whereupon Will's adventure begins.
He spends the next three years surviving deep in the rainforest with little human contact, scavenging for food, searching for shelter and trekking to safety with Oona who becomes his faithful and loving companion. He even becomes a surrogate parent to a family of orangutans who had been orphaned by hunters.
This is a gripping story, full of adventure, love, hope and determination. Can Will find his way out of the rainforest? What will happen if he does?
