Runner 'shot' in leg as he trained in Swansea's SA1 area

A shocked runner was shot in the leg as he went on a training session around Swansea Marina. The man was wounded as he jogged along the quayside of the city’s Prince of Wales Dock, close to Bar Americanos, on Sunday night after 8pm.

It is believed he was injured by a pellet, according to the police.

The 48-year-old dad, from Swansea, who did not wish to be named, said: “It was a shock and stung a bit. I had only started training again as with lockdown and Covid training went out of the window. I went to the Marina and I trained around and I had something on the back of the leg. I felt just a trickle on the back of the leg.”

He added: “My leg was bleeding. There was a hole through my shorts as there was a pellet. It felt like something like an old school cane. I said to my partner, 'what’s down my leg' and she said there was blood there.

"It’s just bonkers really, it’s really surprising. It could have been a lot worse. I have reported it to the police.”

He said he took the decision to speak out to warn other runners about what had happened.

“I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Some idiot thought it was funny I guess. It was a flesh wound and I’ve been very, very lucky.”

He joked: “I am going to have to buy a bulletproof vest." More seriously, he added: "For people new at training it could put them off for life. I am still gobsmacked.”

A South Wales Police spokeswoman said: “We received a report of a jogger being injured by a small object, possibly a pellet, while in the Swansea Docks area between 8.10pm and 8.40pm on February 22.

“Anyone with information should contact 101 quoting occurrence 2100062090.”
