The Minister of Social Development and Human Security has stepped in to take care of a 12-year-old boy and his sister, 11, who were found more than 20 kilometres from their home in Bangkok's Ramkhamhaeng area after they fled from their mother who they said had assaulted them.
The siblings were born to a Thai mother and a Swiss father.
Somkid Somsri, director-general of the ministry's Department of Children and Youth, said the children had been taken into care. Health checks found no trace of physical harm, he said.
However, in May last year, the two kids survived after falling from the balcony of an apartment in Ramkhamhaeng on the fourth floor. Another two siblings who fell together with them died, he added.
The children's father will return to take the children into his care on April 8.
