'Runaway' monkey spotted at Scots train station leaving travellers baffled

A runaway monkey has been spotted at Cambuslang train station leaving travellers baffled by the strange arrival.

ScotRail were contacted by alarmed members of the public after the marmoset monkey was discovered at the transport hub on Saturday afternoon.

Several appeals were made on social media in a bid to find the animal’s owners.

The adorable critter was spotted perched on a handrail at around 3.10pm where he happily posed for a picture.

The rail operator shared an image of the monkey and said: “I’ve dealt with lost phones, handbags and glasses over the years but this is definitely a first!

“If you’ve lost your monkey… it’s waiting on the next service from Cambuslang into the town.”

A ScotRail spokesperson added: “We don’t normally encourage people to monkey around in our stations. That last thing we want is any monkey business.

“However, in this case, we’re prepared to make an exception.

“We just hope the owner and their monkey are reunited quickly before this cheeky little fella makes a monkey out of them.”

Thankfully the little monkey was reunited with its owner, with ScotRail posting a second picture showing it tucking into a tin of fruit.

They added: This wee fella has been reunited with his family! Here he is one last time eating a tin of fruit.

"Canny believe he had a tin opener!"
