Runaway man dodges traffic on busy Edinburgh road before smacking into metal pole

This is the moment a man knocks himself unconscious by running into a pole seconds after avoiding a collision with a car .

Dashcam footage captures the man rushing across Ferry Road in Edinburgh on Thursday morning.

He can be seen running in front of oncoming traffic and into the path of a black Audi forcing the driver to slam on their brakes.

The man smashes face first into a pole on the pavement and knocks himself unconscious.

As he collapses onto the road, two women rush to his aid and drag his limp body onto the side of the pavement out of the main road.

A driver who witnessed the incident said: "At first I heard noises like shouting and then this guy just jumped into the street.

"It was almost as if someone was trying to chase him because he was really rushing. He almost got hit by the car before he ran into the metal pole."

Convicted murderer who breached licence conditions may have fled to Scotland  

"His eyes were totally rolled over, I think he must have been heavily knocked out."

"As I kept driving I saw police heading quickly towards the scene of the incident and paramedics were also called.

"There was lots of people around him, including a staff member from the local shop."

A large queue of traffic can be seen building up behind the sudden incident.

An ambulance was dispatched to the scene to check the man for head injuries.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said a call was made reporting a man being hit by a car.

Officers were called to attend but no further assistance was required.

The Scottish ambulance service has been contacted.
