Runaway goat brings motorway traffic to a standstill as it weaves between cars

A goat caused traffic misery when it began running in between cars on a motorway.

The M62 was plunged into chaos last night when the farm yard animal started weaving in and out of vehicles between junction 28 and 29, Examiner Live reported.

It took police officers more than an hour before they could pin the mammal down, Examiner Live reported.

During that time the emergency service workers had to halt traffic while the goat ran, seemingly care free, up and down the road.

Dramatic photos of the scene shows a great line of cars parked up on the road.

To the left hand side of a jam a despairing looking man can be seen desperately, hopelessly reaching for the goat.

Numerous motorists got out of their cars in a bid to get the animal under control.

Highways England tweeted at 8.55pm: "Update #M62 #Goat – Traffic officers and West Yorkshire Police roads unite have successfully captured the goat."

A tired looking police officer was later spotted holding the animal by its horns and giving the all clear over his radio.

The goat is thought to have been returned safely to his field.

In August another farm yard animal escaped and temporarily caused chaos.

A lone cow which was believed to have escaped from a nearby abattoir before it was due to be slaughtered was on the loose for around two-and-half-hours in Carlisle, Cumbria.

The freedom seeking animal was shot dead by armed officers in a nearby cul-de-sac.
