Runaway Fife prisoner found at property around 15 miles from where he absconded

A runaway prisoner who escaped security staff at a police station in Fife was found yesterday (Tuesday) around 15 miles from where he absconded.

The 33-year-old managed to evade GeoAmey security staff at Dunfermline Police Station on Monday morning and a major manhunt was launched.

Search helicopters were seen flying over parts of the town while officers searched hospitals and, according to eyewitnesses, dog units searched nearby areas.

The prisoner remained missing throughout Monday, and part of Tuesday, before being found at an address in Kirkcaldy at around 4.30pm.

A police spokesperson said: "Police in Fife have traced a man who absconded from GeoAmey staff at Dunfermline Police Station on Monday 19 August.

"The 33-year-old was arrested at an address in Kirkcaldy around 4.30pm on Tuesday 20 August and is expected to appear at Dunfermline Sheriff Court tomorrow (Wednesday 21 August)."
