Two runaway cows have been causing havoc on a major Lanarkshire motorway sparking an emergency closure during rush hour.
The farmyard animals were not alarmed by speeding vehicles as they made their way onto the road. Police raced to the scene to assist motorists and prevent any road traffic collisions.

The escaped cows were spotted galavanting on the road on September 26, forcing police to close part of the major motorway when they were spotted running along the hard shoulder. Motor police were then called to the scene at the southbound carriageway of the M73 near the Gartcosh Interchange at J2A.
A picture shared by Traffic Scotland shows the heifers at the roadside at around 4.10pm on Monday, September 26. Motorists are being urged to use caution on approach report the Record.
Police Scotland officers are being supported by a Trunk Road Incident Support Service (TRISS) vehicle, which can be seen tailing the travelling beasts.
Traffic Scotland tweeted: “M73 J2A hazard. The southbound carriageway is currently restricted due to cows on the hard shoulder. Police and TRISS are in attendance. Take care on approach.”
