COIMBATORE: A day after the body of a woman, which was run over by some vehicles, was found on Avinashi Road near Chinniyampalayam, the city police have identified the multi-purpose vehicle from which the body had fallen off and traced the owner to Tiruvallur district.
The Tiruvallur police were informed about the findings and were asked to collect more details. While the identity of the woman is yet to be found, the postmortem of the body was conducted at the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) on Tuesday afternoon.
According to police sources, forensic doctors estimated the age of the woman between 60 and 65 years. There was no strangulation mark on the neck or other signs of foul play and doctors may rule out murder and pronounce that the woman had met with an accident, a police source said, while adding that the police are waiting for the postmortem report to make an official statement. The two police teams, which were formed to carry out investigation, continued collecting CCTV footage from Kaniyur toll plaza to the Coimbatore airport, a 15km stretch. CCTV footage shows the MPV taking a right turn at SITRA traffic signal and a few minutes later, it returned to the signal and was heading towards the airport.
Police sources said the elderly woman, who appeared to be a destitute, could have been hit by the MPV and the MPV had dragged the dead body for some distance before it detached from the vehicle near Chinniyampalayam. Soon after the body got detached from the vehicle, the MPV driver had stopped the vehicle a few metres away and saw the body lying on the road before driving off.
