‘RUN GIRL’: Woman considers breaking up with her boyfriend after seeing what he got her for her birthday. Viewers think she’s valid

A Reddit storyteller has gone TikTok-viral after sharing a story of birthday heartbreak. Pairing the tale with a Get Ready With Me, Cat (@catstoriesss) told the story as if it were about her.

“I’m considering breaking up with my boyfriend because of what he got me for my birthday,” she began. “My birthday was three days ago, and I had been talking to my boyfriend about what types of gifts I wanted for months.”

To help him, Cat, who was ‘in-character’ as the girlfriend, claimed that she sent him TikToks of clothes and makeup she wanted.

“So, the problem clearly wasn’t communication or lack of information,” she continued. “We’ve been dating for eight months, and this is the first birthday I spent with him. So, midnight comes, we’re alone. I’m spending the night over at his place, and he’s very, very excited to give me the gifts that he bought me. He’s looking at the clock just to say happy birthday and to be able to give me the gifts, so I’m very excited too because I’m like, OK, these might be some really great gifts.”

What birthday gift did the boyfriend get?

Cat added that she got “even more excited” when she found that she had three gifts—but her excitement soon waned.

“I open the first one, and it’s a pack of Pokémon cards. I just go like, ‘OK, whatever.’ All I can think about is the next gift because this is obviously a joke. So I open the next one, and it’s a booster box of Pokémon cards. At this point, like, I’m really mad, so I look at him and I’m like, ‘Is this a joke?’ Because how can this not be? And this guy had the nerve to smirk and tell me to open the last one, and the last one was another booster box of Pokémon cards.”

“Let me be clear,” she added. “I have never talked about Pokémon. Like, I could not be less interested in Pokémon.”

“After all of that, I needed a moment to myself, so I went to our bedroom to be alone and calm myself down to then be able to talk to him and ask him, ‘What was that about?'” she says as the girlfriend.

“But when I came into the living room, I saw that all the gifts that he bought me were opened. Like the booster packs were opened, the Pokémon cards were sprawled on the floor,” she continued.

“Not only did he not give me the gifts that I wanted, that he knew I wanted, like those gifts were for him. I don’t have a conversation,” she says. “He tells me that I don’t know how expensive those booster packs were and that I’m making him feel bad because I’m not appreciating his gifts. So am I being ungrateful, or is he just a jerk?”

Commenters were convinced Cat was the girlfriend

In the comments, many users assumed that Cat herself was the disgruntled girlfriend.

“He was definitely testing you sis,” one wrote. “Buy him makeup for his birthday and see how he feels,” another added.

“I was about to be like, ‘Sometimes people like to try to surprise you rather than give you something you know you want,'” a third remarked. “But Pokémon that he opened himself? Garbage chute. Keep the cards and throw out the man.”

A fourth chimed in saying, “My bf won’t even order me food because he fears choosing something I won’t like. Don’t let him keep doing this to you.”

“My brother did this to me as a KID,” a fifth recounted. “This is a kid thing to do.”

While a sixth simply said, “Nah girl. RUN. Please.”

More birthday madness

This isn’t the only birthday present mishap to have gone viral recently.

Back in July, TikTok user Timmy (@timmyinthewild) took to the app to complain about how his partner ordered him an $80 berry bouquet from Edible Arrangements that never materialized.

While they tried to contact the business through the online contact form, they never received a reply. To make matters worse, the corporate number they called forwarded to “a store that’s now closed.”

In a last-ditch attempt, Timmy says he and his partner contacted the company on their official TikTok — but they were quickly blocked.

“Never, ever use Edible Arrangements,” Timmy warns. “Edible Arrangements, count your days.”
