Rumours of possible Irish trip as Donald Trump confirms UK visit in June

Donald Trump is set to visit the UK in June giving rise to rumours about a possible Ireland visit.

The US President and First Lady Melania Trump will be spending three days in the UK from June 3-5 in the run up to the D-Day anniversary commemorations.

But there has been some speculation that he might take a short trip to his golf resort in Doonbeg, Co Clare during the visit.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar had hinted at a possible Ireland trip for the US president in June.

Donald Trump could visit Ireland as early as June

Another possible date thrown up by the Taoiseach was later in the year, in December, to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of NATO.

Mr Varadkar said in March: "He is going to travel to Europe both for the D Day anniversary and the NATO anniversary, so it's possible that he could make his trip to Ireland before or after one of those.

"It's possible, but there's no firm date discussed agreed, but he does intend to travel to Europe at least twice between now and the end of the year and it being added on to one of those visits would be most likely I think."

While in the UK, Mr Trump won’t be staying with the Queen at Buckingham Palace.

Refurbishment work at the Palace means there will not be enough room for the President and his entourage to stay there during the visit.

A senior Palace source said: “As Buckingham Palace is undergoing a massive renovation it’s just not possible to accommodate President Trump, the First Lady and all his entourage.”
