How good is reported Liverpool transfer target Timo Werner? We asked Football Manager

Transfer season is now well underway and, as always, Liverpool are being linked with players left, right and centre.

Recent reports have linked the Reds with RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner, who is out of contract next summer, so he could be made available for transfer in this window.

The German was a regular goalscorer last season, scoring 20 goals in all competitions, which has seen him linked with a number of clubs across Europe this summer, including the likes of Bayern Munich.

So, how good is Werner?

And, what could he bring to Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool?

We asked Football Manager's highly respected database to find out.

Potential Ability: 165/200

Timo Werner's profile on Football Manager 2019 (Football Manager 2019)

The 23-year-old is one of Germany's most promising young attackers, according to Football Manager 2019.

The young striker is incredibly fast, with very good acceleration and pace, with allows him to get away from opposition defenders.

However, despite Werner having scored 61 goals in 112 appearances for RB Leipzig, his finishing (14) and composure (13) attributes aren't as good as you'd expect, which suggests that he's not as clinical as he could be, which is a frightening prospect.

Also, his low passing (11) and vision (9) attributes suggests that he has work to do in terms of holding the ball up for his teammates, as he's the kind of player who makes runs in behind, rather than dropping deeper.

This would give Jurgen Klopp a different option in attack, as opposed to the likes of Firmino and Origi.

His current ability of 151 rates him as highly as Reds midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (151), so he's clearly good enough to be part of the squad, but he is someway behind Firmino (172) in terms of ability.

His potential of 165 could see him become almost as good as the Brazilian in a few years time, as he is still only 23 years of age and can improve a lot over the next few years.

Football Manager 2019 says that Werner would be a good signing for Liverpool and would give them more variation in their attack, as he's a very different player to their current options.

Plus, if they can get him in a cut-price deal, that seems like it could be a bargain. Let's wait and see what happens this summer.
