Rumoured I'm a Celebrity 2020 Welsh castle confirms it will be closed to the public until the new year

The North Wales castle rumoured to be where this year's I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! will be filmed has announced it is closing until the New Year.

It has been rumoured for weeks that the ITV reality show will be sending celebrities to Gwrych Castle for the 2020 show this autumn.

A statement on Gwrych Castle's Facebook page read: "Gwrych Castle and Estate will be temporarily closing to the public at 5pm on Sunday 23rd August until New Year.

"Keep checking our website and social media for updates."

Now in its 18th year, the ITV reality programme has, for the first time in its history, been forced to swap locations for its upcoming 2020 run due to the coronavirus pandemic.

ITV and Gwrych Castle are yet to confirm the rumour themselves ahead of the new series.

However the local Castle Cove caravan park has suggested that the speculation is true.

The park, based in Abergele, shared a message recently with its residents stating that there's "some TV filming being done at Gwrych Castle" in the future.

The message explained that as a result "caravans are required to hire for crew and cast".

Cranes have also been pictured on site and a nearby caravan park.

And even TV's top survivalist Bear Grylls has warned this year's crop of contestants that roughing it in Wales will present the top-rated show's biggest challenge to date.

The castle dates back to 1822 and boasts 300 acres of grounds - which is large enough for production
