Rumblings continue in YSR, Annamayya districts

Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) working president N. Thulasi Reddy has flayed the decision to name the ancient Kadapa district as ‘YSR’ district and demanded that the name ‘Kadapa’ be added to it.

“The name Kadapa has been in vogue for the district since 1808. The then government gave in to sentiment in 2009 and named it after YSR to keep emotions alive. In spite of repeated pleas to add Kadapa, it paid no heed. The name ‘YSR District’ will not augur well for us,” he said.

Similarly, the decision to retain Rayachoti as the headquarters of Annamayya district has not apparently gone well with the public. Though Madanapalle and Rajampeta vied for the status, the government settled for the lesser-prominent Rayachoti, ostensibly to maintain balance and citing equal distance.

“Rayachoti is acceptable to none. The government has subjected lakhs of public to hardship just to placate one leader”, says G. Venkatrama Raju, an ex-serviceman and ICAR award-winning progressive farmer of Railway Kodur.

Similarly, there is opposition to the plan to redesignate the state GST Office in Rajampeta as a district office. “We suspect that it will be shifted to Rayachoti soon,” rues S.S. Panth, a chartered accountant of Rajampeta. This, he feels, will be a big blow to the developed region.
