Rumble at Foyles

Being turned down for a sales assistant job at Foyles was one of my earliest experiences as a Londoner. Hell, they didn't deserve me anyway. But in a spirit of forgiveness I draw your attention to an event to be held at the famous bookstore on Thursday evening. It's a Bookshop Barnie organised by the Future Cities Project. Star of the show will be commentator Peter Hitchens, and debate will centre on his book The Broken Compass: How British Politics Lost Its Way.

Apparently, the author will be discussing the role of the media, the rise of environmentalism, the "meltdown" in education and explaining why liberals are "the problem" and a Margaret Thatcher was a socialist. (And wasn't she a liberal, too? No wonder that compass broke). It all starts on the 2nd floor at 6.45 and won't cost you a penny. Contact Future Cities via here if you fancy going.
