Rules on your annual leave days clarified by Martin Lewis

Taking holiday time off work while we are in lockdown and mostly working from home may seem pointless.

But what happens to your allotted annual leave if you don't take it this year?

Companies each have their own rules and usually either say all holiday has to be taken by the end of the cycle - or you can carry over a limited number of days.

The Government announced that annual leave would be able to be carried over because of the new coronavirus pandemic.

Now Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis has clarification over who is allowed to carry over annual leave, and for how long, reports MEN.

Posting on Twitter, he confirmed that all workers who have been required to work through the pandemic will be entitled to carry over any unused annual leave for two years.

He said: "CONFIRMED: The ability to carry over unused annual leave for up to 2yrs due to working during Covid-19 is for all workers not just key workers...

"Yes it’s for everyone; technically any firm affected by Covid, but there aren’t many people that doesn’t apply to right now."

He added that furloughed employees are not in this category as they are not working right now.
