Rules on travelling from England to Wales set to change on April 12

A whole set of lockdown restrictions are set to be lifted on April 12 including rules on travelling from England to Wales.

The government's roadmap for easing the national lockdown started on March 8, with Monday marking the start of stage two.

From Monday, non-essential retail and personal care premises such as hairdressers and nail salons will be allowed to reopen and hospitality venues will be allowed to serve people outdoors.

Holidays in England will also be permitted as long as it's in self-contained accommodation such as holiday cottages with members of your own household.

However, the rules on travelling to other parts of the UK are different depending on the rules of each government.

Here's everything you need to know.

Travelling to Wales

Before the Easter holiday the Welsh Government lifted the “stay local” rule and allowed people living within Wales to travel around the country.

However, people living in other parts of the UK were banned from entering Wales without a reasonable excuse.

This rule is set to change on April 12, meaning people will once again be able to travel in and out of Wales from England.

Under the rules, people from the same household will be allowed to stay in self-contained accommodation such as holiday cottages and cabins.

A spokesman for the Welsh Government said: "Travel restrictions on travelling into and out of Wales will be lifted.

"However restrictions on travel to countries outside the Common Travel Area without a reasonable excuse remain in place. The Common Travel Area means the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, and the Republic of Ireland."

Travelling to Scotland

There is currently no confirmed dates on when people from other parts of the UK will be able to travel to Scotland.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said she hoped travel between Scotland and the rest of the UK will be allowed to resume around April 26 or shortly after.

Travelling to Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland is also yet to announced new UK travel rules.
