Rules of Love Island explained after Sherif Lanre axed from ITV show

As shockwaves spread about s exit from the Love Island villa , viewers have one important question - what are the rules of Love Island?

On June 11, a Love Island spokesperson confirmed that 20-year-old Sherif had broken the rules and left the villa.

They said: “After breaking the villa rules Sherif had conversations with the producers and it was mutually agreed that he would leave the Love Island villa.”

Sherif said: “In a case of poor judgement, I broke the villa rules and as a result agreed with the producers that it was best for me to leave the villa. I regret that I didn’t conduct myself in the right way and, as a 20 year old guy, it’s something I know I will take on board and learn from.

"I really enjoyed my time in the villa and look forward to catching up with everyone on the outside."

However viewers were confused about the 'villa rules', with many believing it is a relaxed place.

But ahead of this year's series Love Island producers confirmed the rules of the show to the Daily Star.

Love Island rules

While the full extent of rules is undisclosed, a number of guidelines are in place regarding smoking, vaping, drinking alcohol and having sex in the villa.

A spokesman for the show told the Star there is "a strict briefing for all islanders regarding acceptable behaviour before they go in".

Sex

A Love Island spokesperson said there are "strict guidelines on sexual behaviour in the villa" and "constant monitoring of islander behaviour once in the villa".

Whilst contestants alcohol intake is limited, if an Islander is drunk, contestants must not have sex with them, according to the Mirror.

Smoking

Following a string of complaints after the  2017 series, Radio Times reports that ITV took the decision to ban cigarettes  on the screen.

If a contestant wanted to smoke, they have to exit the villa and go to a designated smoking area alone.

Nudity

Contestants are not allowed to be totally naked in front of any of the other islanders due to the villa being classed as a 'public place'.

According to the Mirror , Islanders can't be nude even in the bathroom.
