Rules for weddings in England under the lockdown lifting roadmap

Rules for weddings in England are to change under the new lockdown lifting roadmap.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the changes in parliament on Monday.

From April 12, at the earliest, wedding receptions will be able to go ahead with up to 15 people.

Then, from May 17 at the earliest, numbers for ceremonies and receptions will hopefully increase up to 30 people.

It is hoped limits on numbers at weddings will be scrapped altogether from June 21.

However, each and every one of these steps are subject to meeting the four steps outlined by the government. And keep in mind that these dates are not set in stone – but it is the earliest these things can happen.

The four tests are:

  • The vaccine rollout is continuing successfully
  • Jabs are effectively reducing hospitalisations and deaths
  • Infection rates do not risk a surge in hospitalisations
  • New variants aren’t posing a fresh risk

The PM said that easing restrictions would inevitably lead to more infections, and that there is "no credible route to a zero-Covid Britain nor indeed a zero-Covid world".

Mr Johnson will address the nation tonight at 7pm.
