Rule breaker Rita Ora answers questions about UK lockdown in awkward TV interview

Rule-breaker Rita Ora was asked about the UK's coronavirus lockdown in an awkward interview on Australian TV on Friday

The singer appeared on the country’s Sunrise breakfast show to perform her single Let You Love Me.

Afterwards, she was interviewed by the show's co-hosts Natalie Barr and Matt Doran, who asked her about Britain’s strict lockdown rules.

Rita previously issued public apologies after twice breaking lockdown regulations last year.

The hosts didn't ask Rita on her own antics, but said: "You guys have done it very tough during Covid. We are happy to have you."

With an awkward nod, Rita replied: "I know, yes."

She added her thanks for the welcome she had received in Australia, saying: "I feel like I'm at home...

"It is beautiful to be around people and to be working. I'm very grateful to be working and just to see the sun.

"Everyone knows the UK is not the sunniest place in the world. I am enjoying the weather."

The first time the 30-year-old star broke the rules was when she failed to self-isolate when she returned to the UK from Egypt in November following a performance at a five-star hotel.

The second was when she threw a birthday bash in the exclusive Casa Cruz restaurant in Notting Hill, West London, a week later when she should have still been isolating.

She paid a £10,000 fine and apologised for her actions, saying: "It was a spur of the moment decision made with the misguided view that we were coming out of lockdown and this would be okay."

RITA ORA GETS INTO THE MARDI GRAS SPIRIT WITH COURTNEY ACT

Rita is due to perform at the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras festival on Saturday.

In her morning chat, she said: "It is my first show in a long time... I'm so honoured to be here and perform at Mardi Gras, one of my favourite festivals. I can't wait to be part of the energy."

The singer also spoke about being a judge on the Australian version of talent contest The Voice. She sits alongside Guy Sebastian, Jessica Mauboy and Keith Urban.
