Rugby World Cup highlights as Japan beat Scotland in thriller and Wales top pool with Uruguay victory

Japan put an incredibly tough weekend behind them to seal a quarter-final spot with a 28-21 win over Scotland in Yokohama.

Wing Kenki Fukuoka led the way with two tries, while Kotaro Matsushima and Keita Inagaki also scored as the hosts held off a fierce second-half assault from a team they had lost against in all seven of their previous meetings.

Having led early on through a Finn Russelll try, second-half scores from WP Nel and Zander Fagerson gave the Scots hope but it wasn't enough.

Elsewhere, Wales secured their progress of winners of Pool D with a error-prone 35-13 win over Uruguay.

Tries from Nicky Smith, Josh Adams, a penalty try, Tomos Williams and Gareth Davies earned a bonus point victory that didn't come easily.

In the earliest match, Tonga finished their World Cup with a 31-19 win over the United States.
