Rugby World Cup coach back playing in Wales 12 hours after arriving home from Japan

Rugby World Cup coach Shaun Connor was back playing the grassroots game in Wales on the weekend, before the group stages in Japan had even finished.

The 43-year-old former Ospreys and Dragons No.10 was alongside fellow Welshman Lyn Jones in the coaching box, on Wednesday, as Russia closed their World Cup campaign with a 61-0 defeat against Scotland.

And less than 12 hours after arriving back in Wales from the Far East on Saturday. ex-Dragons coach Connor came off the bench for Blaina RFC in their 41-5 victory over Newport Saracens in the Colin Tuckwell Shield.

"How many Rugby World Cup coaches do you know that comes straight from Japan at 3am to playing for their local grassroots club at 2.30pm," Blaina put out on their Twitter account

"A true legend of the game."

Russia, ranked 20th in the world, lost all their games in Japan having opened the tournament against hosts Japan.

They also came unstuck against Ireland and Samoa.
