Argentina lock Tomas Lavanini has been given a four-game ban for his high tackle on Owen Farrell against England Rugby.
The Leicester-bound second row was shown a red card by referee Nigel Owens after making contact with the head of Farrell with force.
Lavanini will miss Argentina’s final pool game against the USA, and with the Pumas already eliminated, his World Cup is over.
Lavanini will also be unavailable for three Leicester games once he arrives in England.
The sending off was the Argentine’s second in international rugby, and he has also received five yellow cards.
This spotty history caused the disciplinary panel to decide he was not worthy of a 50% reduction from the entry point of six games.
Lavanini did, however, received a two-game reduction.
“Lavanini admitted the act of foul play and accepted that it warranted a red card,” read the judgement.
“He accepted that given his previous disciplinary record he was not entitled to the full 50 percent discount from the six-game entry point.”
France’s win over Tonga means Argentina cannot progress to the quarter-finals.
