Rugby World Cup 2019 bonuses: How much players could earn

The Rugby World Cup is not like most sporting events in that there is no official prize money on offer as such for the winners.

But that's not to say the players don't get paid based on how far they advance in the tournament. It's more a case of who pays them.

Rather than the tournament organisers shelling out hard cash for the players, it's the respective national associations who offer up money to encourage top performances and hopefully the capture of the Webb Ellis Trophy.

Whilst the bonuses for all nations have not been disclosed or even reported in most cases, it is understood that New Zealand players are set to receive £199,000 each if they win the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

That's according to the New Zealand Herald, who also state that the All Blacks would only earn £28,000 each if they made it all the way back to the final and lost this time around.

But it's the England players who are set for the biggest cash windfall by far thanks to the reported £7million pot available to the squad.

The Telegraph has revealed that Eddie Jones' players can earn up to £225,000 by winning the Rugby World Cup.

This is the same payment structure used in 2015 and bonuses grow steeper from the quarter-finals onwards.
