A popular rugby player died suddenly at the age of just 23 this weekend.
Ryan James's death has left his club, Bryncethin RFC, his family and his friends in mourning.
The talented winger scored a crucial touchdown when they beat Bridgend Sports in May’s final of the Bridgend and District Bowl, reports Wales Online.
He died on Saturday morning. No further information regarding his death has been released at this stage.
Bryncethin secretary Andrew Jones said: “We are devastated at this unexpected news and it’s come as a real shock.
“Some of his teammates had been out with Ryan on Friday night and dropped him off at his home just after midnight.
“He had been full of beans about this coming season and had been training hard, with the club and on an individual basis.
“Ryan was 23 and lived and breathed Bryncethin RFC.
"He was a very determined runner who took some stopping and also had quite deceptive foot-work.”
James’ twin brother Steve plays for the club, at flanker. Steve had got married on July 16.
“Steve and his wife Abi only returned home from their honeymoon a few days ago,” said Jones.
“As a club, we feel for them and the rest of Ryan’s family and friends. It’s just such a shame. Ryan was a great guy and will be sorely missed.
“They were from Sarn but both of the twins had been was us since under-15s, coming through our junior and youth set-up.
“Bryncethin RFC will do everything it can in its powers to support the family, our squad and everyone connected with the club who knew Ryan.”
Jennifer Williams tweeted: “Such a brilliant character in school. He and his brother were such cheeky chappies, adored by all. Sincere condolences to his brother and family.”
Tributes and messages of support from among others, top referee Nigel Owens and former Wales prop Hugh Williams-Jones, have flooded in on social media following the tragedy.
Caerphilly RFC, whose former hooker Owen Bennett died suddenly on July 22 aged 20, has offered its support to Bryncethin.
Caerphilly were staging a memorial match to Bennett at Virginia Park today.
