Rugby League World Cup set for Manchester headquarters

The Rugby League World Cup is set to establish its headquarters in Manchester.

The international sports tournament will be taking three suites with a total of 52 desks at Department Bonded Warehouse.

The move is part of the organisation’s plans to ramp up preparations for the 2021 World Cup, which will be held in England.

Ahead of the competition taking place in October and November this year, culminating with a double-headed final at Old Trafford, the organisation will be taking more than 3,130 sq ft of space at the city centre location.

The Rugby League World Cup 2021 will see 32 teams play 62 games over five weeks in the men’s, women’s and wheelchair tournaments in a number of locations across England.

Anthony Powell, managing director at Department, said: "It’s exciting to have Rugby League World Cup choose Department Bonded Warehouse to house its operations and team as it prepares for the tournament, which will be watched around the world.

"The international competition’s games will be played across the country, and the decision to have its organisational headquarters based in Manchester demonstrates the continually growing business appeal of the region, and city centre, despite the difficulties of the last year.

"It is fantastic to see and we are so pleased to be a part of the continuation of Manchester’s long-standing sporting legacy.

"Flexibility and adaptability are central at Department Bonded Warehouse, so Rugby League World Cup has been able to take a space which suits them now, with the potential to modify it as and when they need additional capacity.

"Department Bonded Warehouse offers spacious workspaces, studio facilities, meeting and social spaces, giving the team a central space to collaborate and work together."
