Rugby fans left stunned inside stadium as Leicester Tigers player disappears down ditch

When your name is Harry Potter, it's always going to be hard to avoid magic jokes.

Especially when you perform something of a disappearing act during a rugby match.

That's exactly what happened to the Leicester wing who shares a name with the famous wizard in the second quarter of the Tigers' European Champions Cup opener away to Bordeaux on Saturday.

In possession but with nowhere to go, the 23-year-old opted to jump over the hoardings on the edge of the pitch - but had no idea he would be greeted with a drop of more than 6ft.

Team-mates and opponents approached the drop to peer over the edge and check on him, with the ball reappearing almost 10 seconds later.

But cameras then panned to the 6ft 1in winger initially struggling to return to the field of play.

Fans watching on inside Stade Chaban Delmas were visibly shocked and concerned by his jump, which thankfully did not cause serious injury.

"Of all the players to disappear within the depths of this Bordeaux stadium, it had to be Harry Potter!" BT Sport's Twitter feed read.

One commentator said: "It's a big drop, there's a moat!

Another joked: ""Harry Potter, he just disappeared into the abyss! You'd need a magic wand to get out of that. "That could have been really nasty."

The incident happened just after the 20-minute mark when Leicester were leading 10-3. They went on to win the match 16-13.

Potter has scored four tries in seven appearances so far this season for Leicester.
