Rugby fans can now stay at the WRU's stunning new hotel for Wales' autumn matches but it won't be cheap

Rugby fans can stay in the Welsh Rugby Union's new hotel right after watching Wales take on the All Blacks this month — if they've got an extra couple of hundred pounds to spare.

The Park gate Hotel on Cardiff's Westgate Street - within shouting distance of the Principality Stadium - opens its doors on October 25 after almost two years of construction work.

That's just a few days before Wales' autumn campaign kicks off against the All Blacks on Saturday, October 30.

A collaboration between the WRU and the group behind the iconic Celtic Manor Resort, the Welsh capital's luxury 170-bed hotel is almost ready to welcome customers through the doors of the former Post Office and County Court properties in the city centre and, as one would expect, staying at the stunning new six-floor venue over Wales international weekends will cost a pretty penny.

You'll be paying for the grandeur and elegant surrounds, with the hotel boasting a signature restaurant and bar, tea lounge and rooftop Elemis spa and pool overlooking the stunning Cardiff skyline - completed by its very own private entrance to the stadium for hotel guests on hospitality packages.

Rooms are still available for the weekend of Wales v New Zealand, based on a search at the time of writing for a one-night stay for two people in one room.

The night before the big match would set a couple back from £262 for the room only, rising to £282 with breakfast and £342 with dinner thrown in, too.

For October 30 itself, room only rates are currently unavailable but bed and breakfast in a superior queen room for two would cost you £485, rising to £545 for a deluxe king or £685 for a 55sq m superior suite which would also come with a sofa bed for two children aged below 13, a walk-in shower, separate bath and in-room fridge.

A 66sq m deluxe suite then rises to £705 for the night, with a separate area with a bunk bed for two more children aged below 13 provided. Staying in the 74sq m Parkgate Suite, with its own separate lounge, after watching Wayne Pivac's men face the All Blacks would set you back £835 (breakfast is included and there's a feature bathroom with soaker bath). The most expensive room available after Wales' first autumn game, with breakfast, is in the Tower Suite for £860 for one night.

The following weekend, Wales take on world champions South Africa on Saturday, November 6, and getting your head down next to the home of Welsh rugby afterwards in a superior queen room will cost £381 for the room only or £401 with breakfast (based on two people staying). The most expensive room available on this weekend is the Parkgate Suite at £731 for room only or £751 with breakfast.

On Sunday, November 14, Wales take on Fiji and their place in the rugby world seems to be reflected in hotel room princes. One room for two people would cost from £276, rising to £296 with breakfast, on the night of the match.

Finally, Wales host Australia on Saturday, November 20, when a room only would start from £345, rising to £365 with breakfast.

Fear not, however, if you're keen to sample Cardiff's latest must-see destination, as the above price plan is not in operation all year round.

The weekend after Wales' autumn series ends, prices drop and start from £187 for bed and breakfast for two people overnight on Friday, November 26, or from £220 that Saturday or from £136 that Sunday.

WRU chief executive Steve Phillips previously said of the venture: "Supporters now have a complete menu of options to complete their matchday experience from our premium hospitality offerings at the new Parkgate Hotel or on site at Principality Stadium.

"The Parkgate Hotel will put guests right at the heart of the matchday action and is the perfect location for exploring the city centre. It is another fantastic addition to what we are able to offer our visitors for rugby matches and other sporting fixtures, music concerts and corporate events."

Rightacres chief executive Paul McCarthy said: "The city centre of Cardiff has been lacking a luxury hotel for a long time and it is especially pleasing to incorporate two iconic but unused buildings in the hotel. As well as the connection to Principality Stadium, the significant commercial regeneration going on in this part of the city will only add to the appeal of The Parkgate Hotel."
