Rugby club choir stalwart hand over the reigns to successor

The chairman of Linlithgow Rugby Club choir, Chris Thomas, has stepped down after more than 10 years in the post and has passed the baton to long standing choir member Peter Russell.

At the choir’s AGM on Thursday evening (June 6) Chris’  achievements were remembered and applauded by the choir.

Under his leadership, the organisation has increased its membership, it has improved its level of performance and each year, by virtue of its many performances, has presented on average £1250 to CHAS (Children’s Hospice Across Scotland) and a further £1000 to local charities.

Typically modest in his remarks Chris said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my term of office and have some amazing memories to take with me.

“I can only thank the various members of my committee and of course the choir themselves for giving unstintingly their support over the years for both me as chairman and to the choir as an organisation.

“I would also like to thank Ian Gibson of Linlithgow’s Platform 3 for the support given as the choir’s sponsor.”

“I will now be able to concentrate fully on being the best baritone I can be.”

In accepting the position of chairman, Peter thanked Chris for his leadership over the years and the planning and management which went into arranging events which saw the choir perform in the Albert Hall in London, the Usher Hall in Edinburgh and on various tours to Belgium and France.

Peter listed the various reasons why he enjoyed being part of the Rugby Club Choir including the camaraderie and the buzz of performing in the various concerts at home and abroad.

Looking forward, the choir will be performing later this year at their annual Carol Concert in St Ninian’s Church on December 6 and in 2020 have already been booked for the Rugby Club Burns Night on January 24.

One of their major events for next year will be to host a concert in Linlithgow jointly with Morriston RFC Choir, one of Wales’s foremost male voice choirs from Swansea.

If you enjoy singing and can hold a tune why not come along and see if you could be part of Linlithgow Rugby Club’s choir.

They meet on a Monday evening in the clubhouse from around 8pm till 10pm and would make you very welcome. Check our website or phone Chairman Peter Russell on 01506 843062, or Vice Chairman Harry Lynch on 01506 884389.
