Rugby bosses expect Ireland v France to go ahead as planned despite postponement speculation

Irish rugby bosses expect the Six Nations clash between Ireland v France to go ahead as scheduled on Sunday.

Reports emerged this week that the Department of Health is looking at the possibility of cancelling the fixture.

It has been claimed that the French team might not be allowed to enter the country as they may, under the latest Health Act, fall outside the exemptions currently in place for professional sport under the current Level 5 restrictions.

But IRFU chiefs insist they have not been made aware of any change of plan by the Six Nations or the Irish government.

“The IRFU continues to operate under the protocols and arrangements that have allowed professional rugby to operate successfully, without any significant Covid 19 issues, since late last year," said a spokesperson.

"We look forward to welcoming the French players, who are also in a secure bubble, to Dublin this weekend".
