Rugby Australia announces Super W national women's competition

Rugby Australia will run a national women's competition next year.

The Super W 15-a-side competition, comprising of five teams, will get underway in March 2018.

The move follows last week's announcement that the NRL would also kick off a national women's competition next year.

Every major football code in Australia now has a women's competition, with soccer's W-League almost a decade old and the AFLW beginning last season.

Women's rugby received a surge in interest when the Australian sevens team won gold at last year's Olympics.

More to come.
