It’s taken longer than many health experts would have preferred, but the sports world is starting to take precautions in hopes of limiting the spread of the coronavirus. The Ivy League canceled its conference tournament. Affected cities are issuing orders for closed-door or cancelations of games. Sports leagues are limiting access to the locker rooms.
With that in mind, Jazz star Rudy Gobert could have handled this joke better.
While speaking to reporters from the media center on Monday (not the locker room), Gobert finished up his press conference by touching all the microphones, recorders and phones left on the table. He was making a point about the global fear stemming from the coronavirus pandemic.
Come Wednesday, Gobert was ruled questionable for Utah’s game against the Thunder with an “illness.” Of course, we don’t know what illness Gobert has, and there’s no indication at all that it has anything to do with COVID-19 whatsoever. Him being questionable would suggest that there’s nothing contagious about this illness.
But still, that’s exactly why Gobert should be mindful of what’s going on around the world and country. Let’s try to limit the spread of illness and not, you know, jokingly put others at risk to make a point.
