Rudi Voller delivers fresh Kai Havertz update as Marina Granovskaia set transfer conditions

Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller has denied reports that there has been progress between his club and Chelsea in negotiations for Kai Havertz.

The Blues and Leverkusen have been locked in talks all week for the talented German attacker, and Frank Lampard’s team are confident of completing the deal within the next week, the Express says.

The 21-year-old has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge ever since the Blues completed the signing of his German compatriot Timo Werner.

However, despite some reports, Voller has suggested that there is “nothing new” to update the world about Havertz.

“There is nothing new in this regard, and we are still very relaxed about it,” Voller told German publication Sport Buzzer.

“Of course, we would be very happy if he stayed for another year. It is clear that the departure of such a player, despite the high transfer fee, always means a loss - see Leipzig and (Timo) Werner.”

With the coronavirus crisis having such a detrimental effect on clubs’ finances, some players will perhaps be available for slightly cheaper this summer.

However, Voller believes players of the same quality as Havertz shouldn’t be any cheaper despite the pandemic.

“In times of corona, it may actually be that the transfer fees have decreased for many players," he said.

“But corona or corona - this is not the case with exceptional players like Havertz or Jadon Sancho. There is no corona discount for them.

“What makes Kai Havertz so interesting is the fact that he embodies world-class in four or five positions.”
