Rudi Voller defends Rangers preparations as Bayer Leverkusen go cold into Europa League second leg

Rudi Voller has defended Bayer Leverkusen's decision not to play any friendlies ahead of their clash with Rangers.

The teams meet for their Europa League second leg on Thursday, with the Germans holding a 3-1 lead from the game at Ibrox in March.

Perhaps unusually, Leverkusen have opted not to play any warm-up friendlies, with their only action coming in intra-squad games.

That means they've been without a match since the end of the Bundesliga season, but Voller doesn't think that will make too much difference.

He said: "This is no advantage or disadvantage to not having played any games. In my opinion, everyone starts off at the same level.

"Some countries are still playing, some countries are back playing like in Scotland and some aren't playing at all, like us.

"Everyone is looking at each other and no one really knows what the best position is. It's a game of unknowns.

"What's more important? Lack of playing rhythm or lack of match practice? In my opinion, there is no actual confirmed answer.

"In the end, it will come down to who is the better team on the night."
