Rudi Voller breaks silence on claims that Chelsea have agreed Kai Havertz transfer fee

Chelsea have made strides during the summer transfer window but continue to be frustrated in their pursuit of Kai Havertz.

The Blues finished fourth in the Premier League last season, lost the FA Cup final and were dumped out of the Champions League by eventual winners Bayern Munich.

All told, more improvements are needed ahead of next season for Chelsea to challenge for honours.

Steps were taken in the right direction thanks to the signings of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech but Havertz has been the next target eyed by Frank Lampard.

Kai Havertz: In profile

Leicester City's Ben Chilwell has been heavily linked with a move as well but it's Havertz who has been dominating the Chelsea transfer news the most in recent weeks.

And just when Chelsea fans thought they had a deal for the midfielder all-but wrapped up, Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller offered up a blow today.

The 21-year-old is reportedly ready to sign a five-year deal but Leverkusen are eager to receive £90 million for the German.

Voller has now responded to reports that Chelsea are close to a deal by dismissing the notion that they have finally agreed an initial £72 million fee with add-ons of £18 million, reported by Bild and Sport Bild.

His reaction to the news was simply to tell SID: "That's nonsense!"

If the Leverkusen chief's admission is to be believed, then Chelsea still have some more work to do to complete a deal for Havertz.
