'Rude' bride slams guest's thoughtful wedding gift as it didn't meet her expectations

When attending a wedding, it's traditional to bring a gift for the happy couple, but of course no one is actually required to do so.

Some people buy from a registry to give the bride and groom an item that will help them on in their new life together.

Others pick out something of their own choosing.

One guest at a wedding decided to come up with her own gift idea and presented the couple with a hamper of treats.

Inside the basket were numerous items, including sweets, a jar of marshmallow fluff, biscuits and crisps.

It was accompanied by a card which read: "Life is delicious — enjoy."

And while we'd be very pleased to receive some tasty goodies, the bride was less than impressed.

Following the wedding - which took place in 2013 - a photo of the hamper went viral after it was shared online by the woman who gifted it, Kathy Mason.

The photo, despite being several years old, resurfaced on Reddit this week and has caused quite a stir with users.

Alongside the original image, Kathy explained how she had sent the basket but didn't receive a warm thank you from the couple.

Instead the bride, Laura, messaged her to inform her that the gift wasn't really good enough, and an envelope of cash would have been better.

According to The Hamilton Spectator, Laura's message read: "I want to thank you for coming to the wedding Friday.

Kathy was shocked by the text the bride sent (stock photo) (Getty Images)

"I'm not sure if it's the first wedding you have been to, but for your next wedding… people give envelopes. I lost out on $200 covering you and your date's plate... and got fluffy whip and sour patch kids in return.

"Just a heads-up for the future."

Speaking at the time, Kathy said she didn't think she had done anything wrong in giving the gift and it seems Reddit users today agree with her.

The photo was shared in the Wedding Shaming community on the site, with the caption: "Bride shames wedding gift".

Laura was branded "rude" and "tacky" in the comments for her text message.

One person said: "What planet is this horrible bride living on?? If you don’t like or want the gift, then re-gift the damn thing and move on with your life, you rude hag. You do not write a snarky email to the guest informing them that they should have been aware that they were costing the bride x amount of money and their gift didn’t measure up."

Another wrote: "What an absolutely heinous person."

"If you're that desperate for money don't blow $200 per person on a fancy wedding you don't need," proclaimed a third.

Someone else replied: "Bride may not realize but it actually can get pretty damn costly to put baskets together."
