A dad-of-five has had a rude awakening after buying a set of X-rated number plates when he was drunk - he can't shift them.
Part-time wheeler dealer Darren Street spent £399 each on four reg plates which all have the same reference to a sex act and a sexual position.
The 45-year-old bought ‘BJ69 XXL’, ‘BJ69 GOB’, ‘BJ69 BLW’ and ‘BJ69 SEK’ from the DVLA website thinking he could make a profit.
But his £1,600 business venture has backfired because he now can’t sell them.
Not even at face value.
Company director Darren said: “It was a Saturday night and I tried this thing called gin and tonic.
“And bottle started going down.
“We had some friends over and half a bottle went.
“I’m always thinking of money making ideas and it seemed like a good idea at the time.
“I ended up spending nearly £1,600.”
Darren, who is married to 41-year-old Lisa, added: “I woke up the next morning and thought ‘Oh no I actually did that last night’.”
He was amazed they were even for sale because the DVLA usually bans any number plates that can be seen as rude.
Each reg plate is licensed for the next ten years.
He tried to sell them on www.numberplates-4-u.co.uk and on Facebook but so far he hasn’t found a buyer.
Darren, of Ryde, Isle of Wight, posted: “69 plates available.
“Don’t ask!! I was slightly under the influence when I bought them.
“Offers considered, will sell individually.”
Darren added: “It was a bit of fun, hopefully I will be able to sell them eventually.”
