Ruby Walsh slams Royal Ascot decision after controversial Norfolk Stakes

Ruby Walsh has slammed current racing rules after a controversial Royal Ascot decision on Thursday that saw 50/1 outsider The Ridler win in the opening race.

The horse veered across the path of a number of horses en route to winning as Paul Hanagan was slapped with a 10-day ban for careless riding.

But stewards did not change the result of the race and Walsh slammed the decision, saying it favoured 'foulers'.

Speaking on ITV's TV coverage, he said: "The question is did the winner improve his position, no, but did he disimprove the position of one of the others? He did with the third horse.

"They are the rules, but if you were the connections of the second or third, which I know in this case are the same, then that has to be taken into account. The fouler gets the benefit of the doubt in racing, rather than the fouled. I'm not sure if that's right.

"The third horse, you could argue, was cost second place but that's the rub of the green. That's racing."
