Ruby Rose quit 'tough' Batwoman role following stunt injury, actor confirms

Ruby Rose has revealed injuries from a stunt gone wrong led to her exit from Batwoman.

The Australian actor departed the superhero series after just one season in May, but declined to offer any specifics behind her exit until now.

While reports in May suggested that tensions arose as Rose was unhappy with the long hours she was required to work on set, the actor has now confirmed that the short time she was given to recover from her injuries guided her decision.

“Being the lead of a superhero show is tough,” Rose told Entertainment Weekly. “Being the lead in anything is tough. But I think, in that particular instance, it was a lot more difficult because I was still recovering from my surgery.

“I had my surgery and then 10 days later I went to work, which maybe wasn’t the best idea. Most people take about a month or three off before they return to work, so it was definitely made more difficult by that. But as far as being a lead of a show or a film — regardless if it’s action or if it’s emotional — in whichever ways it’s taxing.”

She continued: “I’m proud of myself for working under sort of interesting circumstances, you know, with the recovery and all. I would definitely do [TV] again. I just think that it was also time for me to take a break to fully heal and then return.”

In 2019, Rose underwent emergency surgery following a stunt injury on the Batwoman set. She wrote on Instagram that she herniated two discs in the stunt, leaving her with chronic pain and a spinal chord “close to severing”.

Rose will be replaced by actor Javicia Leslie for the second season of Batwoman, with Leslie portraying a new character.
