Ruby Redfort: Feel The Fear by award-winning author Lauren Child is the fourth action-packed installment in the series which centres on the life of a thirteen-year old 'Sherlock Holmes', Ruby Redfort, who works as an undercover detective for Spectrum. Having been in the business for quite some time, it's second nature for Ruby to come face-to-face with a villainous psychopath and be excruciatingly close to death. Now, understandably, the secret agent has taken to thinking that she is invincible, but recklessness always comes before a fall.
Then along comes a ghostly and seemingly invisible thief, stealing from the tallest buildings in Twinford. Will Ruby stop this burglar once and for all, or will her fearlessness and ego lead to her eventual downfall?
This adrenaline-pumping thriller is full of fast-paced chapters. Despite the fact that the story is over 500 pages long, the novel is extremely addictive from start to finish. The suspense-laden narrative, littered with Americanisms such as 'buster' and 'bozo', will keep you on your toes throughout an incredible journey into a perilous world of crime.
This compelling tale would appeal to older girls as there is a slightly complicated storyline and the inclusion of extra sub-plots may confuse younger readers. Those who have read any of the previous phenomenally successful Ruby Redfort novels will not be disappointed; the excellent narrative will keep readers hooked until the very end as we accompany our intrepid detective through another exhilarating mystery.
